SUMMARY:Oral History Training II
DESCRIPTION:In this first project phase of Lily’s Legacy\, we are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic volunteers to help record and transcribe oral histories from people across Liberal Judaism’s communities. All welcome. \nOral history is about recording people’s memories using the medium of sound and video. This can be used as a tool for understanding the recent past\, and enables people who have been hidden from history to be heard and the communities they represent. \nFacilitator: Dr Verusca Calabria   profile: https://www.ohs.org.uk/person/calabria-verusca/ \nSession Content part II (Oral History Training): In this second training session\, we’ll focus on processing our recordings. We’ll look into transcription techniques\, ten we explore the basics of audio editing process using free and easily-accessible software. We’ll discuss more ethical issues around oral histories and other questions that may have popped up since the first training session last month (including use of recording equipment). We will also keep working on the interview/topic guide which is the core resource for conducting interviews in this project. \nIt is possible to join this session without having done part I) in February 2019\, although some catching-up may be necessary. \nThis training is tailormade for this project and appropriate for all levels. \nThe training is only open to project volunteers. \nInterviewer Task Description Role: To carry out oral history interviews\, using a topic guide (i.e.. a list of prepared questions) which will be created as part of the course. Each interview will last approximately 1.5-3 hours. This may also involve travelling to various parts of the UK to interview participants\, but all expenses will be covered\, and travelling outside of London is completely negotiable. \nPerson Specification: In order to carry out the oral history interviewer role\, you’ll need: an interest in history & heritage; literacy skills; organisational skills; to demonstrate an interest in equality/diversity and religion/faith/belief; to be able (with training) to use recording equipment; to be able to travel in order to interview.  We offer reasonable adjustment. \nTime Commitment: In order to be able to take part in the interviewing part of the project\, you must be available for training.  \nVolunteering period: A minimum of 6 months. The amount of hours you wish to volunteer are negotiable and flexible.\n\nLimited places available.
