Lily's Legacy Project
See ExhibitionLily’s Legacy Project
Liberal Judaism has always been at the cutting edge of modernity, inclusivity and equality, providing a home for everyone’s Jewish story.
Lily’s Legacy examines how Liberal Judaism embodies the vision of its founders – Lily Montagu, Claude Montefiore and Rabbi Dr Israel Mattuck – both today and throughout its history. It will document, share and celebrate Liberal Judaism’s rich heritage as well as its contribution to British society, while preserving our legacy for future generations.
To make this happen, we need your help. As we begin, we are asking Liberal Judaism’s members and friends, to share their stories, and copies of their memorabilia to be included in the final collection.
We also need volunteers to help in various ways during the project including recording the history and creating materials for final exhibition and educational resources. Volunteers will receive free skills training in collecting oral histories, archiving, interviewing and exhibition curation.
At the end of the project, we will celebrate the launch of our touring exhibition and archive collection with numerous exciting events including a symposium.
Partners and associates of the project include London Metropolitan Archives, The Wiener Library, Parkes Institute at the University of Southampton, The Woolf Institute at Cambridge, The Faith and Belief Forum, The Board of Deputies of British Jews, and the Jewish Museum London.
