Training: Be an Exhibition Curator for Liberal Judaism
February 27, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Join our professional, hands-on training and be part of a pioneering voluneer curator team. Help us create a legacy!
Thursday 27 February 2020, 18:30-21:15, The Montagu Centre, London
What? The basics of curating heritage; writing for exhibitions, working with key messages, working with oral histories, working with community and faith heritage
The workshop will be practical ‘hands-on’, using materials from the Lily’s Legacy (LL) project.
Who? Facilitated by Rabbi Dr Miri Lawrence – Liberal Jew, a Rabbi at Reading Liberal, Jewish Educator, PhD examining Judaism in the post-war suburban home (1945-1979) involving oral history, archival research and heritage/museum work.
Everyone welcome. No particular skills need. Just a passion for faith & community heritage, and the willigness to work alongside the LL team on various outputs (tasks may involve reading transcripts, archive research, writing content for exhibition posters, help creating an online exhibition, help compile exhibition booklet).
Why? We will use our new set of skills to conceptualise and create a groundbreaking multi-media exhibition to be launched at the Liberal Judaism Biennial Conference in May 2020, and Wiener Library in July.
The workshop is open only to those volunteers who plan on being part of the LL exhibition team.
Cost & Expenses? Participation is free. Reasonable travel and other expenses are paid.
Time/Hours? Flexible. Workshop attendees are expected to donate a minimum of three hours/week until the end of May 2020 to help produce the Lilys Legacy exhibition. Volunteering can be extended until summer 2020 to help with other outputs.
Except for the training session, the occasional team meeting or project events (eg exhibition launch), participation in the curator group can be remote via own PC.
Limited places.
